BACAKORAN.CO – Dozens of university students from various organizations, along with several community groups, held a protest in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR/MPR RI) building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The demonstration was part of a series of rallies that began on August 25, highlighting what protesters call the unfairly high allowances for DPR members, which they see as arrogant toward the public.

During the protest, the crowd carried banners and posters while taking turns delivering speeches.

The atmosphere remained peaceful under tight security by the police.

“This is a peaceful protest,” said one speaker from the top of a command vehicle.

Protesters voiced several demands, including calls for greater transparency in the DPR’s budget, rejection of certain law revisions seen as harmful to the people, and the withdrawal of controversial policies.

They also demanded police reform as part of broader systemic changes.

One of the most striking demands was for law enforcement to fully investigate the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who was killed after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle during a previous protest on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

“Bring justice to those responsible for Affan’s death. We demand a police revolution,” shouted one protester.

The situation around the protest site was reported as calm.
